Becky and Chet | Maternity Session | Carversville, PA
Becky has an energy about her that warms you from your head to your toes, and Chet's smile makes you want to smile. When Becky and Chet decided they wanted me to be a part of their incredible journey from pregnancy to parenthood, I jigged in delight as I responded to the inquiry. As the weeks went by I checked in to see how Becky was feeling. I learned more about the couple's history as she told me about the day she met Chet. During one of her bartending shifts at a bar in Doylestown, she looked up, saw Chet, and instantly had that 'Oh man, that's my future Husband' moment. She was right, of course. They were engaged in February 2016, married September of the same year, and several months later were pregnant with their first child.
That leads us to the sunrise maternity session you will soon be viewing below.
On a -let's be honest- quite perfect morning in August 2017, I left my Philadelphia home at 4:30am (fresh coffee in hand thanks to my Husband!) and headed to Carversville, PA. After a fifty five minute commute that included me squealing to myself about the beautiful sky turning from black to a beautiful indigo, I parked outside of Becky and Chet's home. I notified them of my arrival, sipped my coffee, formatted an SD card, and listened to NPR. I soon heard my name spoken by Chet's deeply warm voice, gathered my gear, and headed over to hug the beaming couple.
We then spent two hours basking in one of the most beautifully lit sessions I've ever photographed. We were surrounded by the gentle hum of bugs, birds, and cars going by as Becky and Chet showed me around their special world.

This song allows you to connect with the photographs on a more visceral level.
This was the moment when the sun peaked from behind the trees.
"We feel very honored to have had you capture this special time for us". - Rebecca
"We are most excited about meeting this little bundle of love that we created. We're excited about being a team, and raising our baby with love, kindness, hope, and happiness. We have an amazing support group of family and friends and are truly blessed and excited that our baby (and first grandchild on both sides!) gets to be surrounded by such loving people". -Rebecca
I appreciate when I am photographing a maternity session, and the baby kicks. This photograph transports the parents back to a fleeting memory, and if they close their eyes, I am sure they can feel that moment in real time...
I followed Becky and Chet around the gorgeous grounds by their old home as they pointed out special places that they hold close to their hearts.
"Chet’s side of the family is big into game night. One of our favorite games is called Rollick, and it's where you look at a card and act out what is on the card using no words. One night we let the game get underway, and then Chet and I went up mid-way through (I don’t even remember what was on the card), and acted out 'She is having a Baby. The look of shock and happiness on his family’s faces was priceless, and we will never forget it!". - Rebecca
Fun fact: The Carversville Inn was built in 1813. Originally called the 'Bird-In-Hand', it was built in Federal style with two floors and a gabled roof. A third floor and porch were added in 1859. Over the years it has served as a hotel, general store, ice cream parlor and gas station. If you're ever in the area, check it out!
This image is a perfect example of timing. I did not set this shot up. Chet meandered down to the creek, and Becky was ready to begin shooting again. She turned around to call for Chet, and there you have it.
Matching cars? As if they couldn't be more charming.
As Becky took a water break I heard them discussing details about home ownership and future possible renovations as I glanced over photographs hanging up in the living room. Chet then made fresh coffee, and handed me a cup.
"I want you to photograph my whole life, for the rest of time!". -Rebecca's message to me after she saw several previews from this session.
"Becky loves me for me". -Chet's response when I asked what one of his favorite things about his Wife was.
Chet makes birdhouses by hand!
This photograph encapsulates many moments Becky and Chet shared together on this very porch. As they exchanged some of those memories with me, I saw the twinkle in their eyes. The place they called home, and "their version of paradise", was the birthplace of their love story. I enjoyed gaining a short glance into that world, and I hope you have too.
